Francy Castillo leads the Berruecos Project, which
collects parchment coffee from small producers at her
collection point, allowing those in remote areas to
access the specialty coffee market and earn premium
prices. The project supports producers in Arboleda
Berruecos and San Lorenzo, Nariño. Francy visits their
communities to identify needs, offer technical support
on specialty coffee practices, and provide essential tools
and resources for daily fieldwork. The initiative
promotes sustainable development in the coffee sector
by improving quality, encouraging environmental care,
and fostering inclusion and competitiveness, with a
focus on supporting producers, youth, and women.
The coffee from Arboleda is renowned for its unique flavor profiles, often described as having bright acidity, floral notes, and a balanced body. The area's coffee is typically grown at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,200 meters above sea level, which contributes to the slow maturation of the coffee cherries, enhancing their flavor complexity.
